This webinar series is designed for parents, college students, educators and clinicians working to improve academic success and learning for all types of learners. It will address ‘inclusion’ in an increasingly ‘exclusive’ educational system.
We’ll discuss current research in learning and universal design, effective 504 accommodations, specific strategies, examples and research-backed interventions that make sense for today’s learner. We’ll also talk about how to be an effective advocate for your specific learning needs (or the specific needs of your student/learner).
More specifically, each installment will cover:
Understanding Accommodations, Access & Advocacy for students with learning differences. The role and purpose of 504 plans & IEP’s (individualized Education Plans) and the frustrations and common misconceptions on the part of students, parents, teachers and administrators. Why is it so hard to get the support our students need?
Articulating the rationale, the law and the research behind accommodations, modifications & best practices for learning in the 21st century. Defining your specific learning needs and understanding what interventions work and why they are needed and how they will improve individual ADHD friendly strategies aimed at improving performance. performance
How to use the “Task Performance Model” to pinpoint problem performance areas & advocate for appropriate interventions. Discuss ways to individualize accommodations, create a partnership with schools, and put effective interventions into action! *This session will include handouts and homework so you can come prepared to discuss your specific needs for final discussions.
Specific accommodations, examples, scenarios and Q & A. Discuss and evaluate specific accommodations at all levels of education (specifically k-12). Discuss the accessibility needs of YOUR child/student and get feedback. (this last session may run longer than 1 hour depending on needs of the participants)
